ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 29 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom plans to start laying the Nord Stream-2 natural gas pipeline on schedule this summer, CEO Alexei Miller said in a news conference on Friday.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Gazprom plans to implement the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
“Laying of the maritime part of the Nord Stream-2 will start strictly on schedule this summer. We’ve all received permits for construction and exploitation of the pipeline from Germany, Sweden, and Finland. Yes, there is an issue with the permit from Denmark, but we have a plan to solve the question,” he said.
He also said that the company may pump gas via the second thread of the TurkStream pipeline to gas transportation systems of Bulgaria, Serbia, and Hungary.
“We should point out that the decisions (of Bulgaria, Serbia, and Hungary to develop national gas transportation systems) were made in strict accordance with the existing European energy legislation. That is why gas may start flowing through the TurkStream to the gas transportation systems of Bulgaria, Serbia, and Hungary at the beginning of 2020 after the TurkStream reaches its projected capacity,” he said.
The TurkStream pipeline was designed to consist of two branches with a length of over 900 kilometers and a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters (bcm) each. One of them, to be finished in 2018, is to carry Russian gas to Turkey, while the other is to transit gas to the European countries through Turkey and is to be finished in 2019.
Miller also said that Gazprom was even considering expansion of capacities to China via the Sila Sibiri (Power of Siberia) gas pipeline.
